7 Must Do’s Before Stepping Out The Door
You know I love a good list especially one that helps you get your look together quickly and flawlessly.
Life is busy. I get it. So when it comes to remembering things, grabbing the kids and the keys are challenging enough let alone worrying about if what you’re wearing actually looks good.
So when it comes to getting ready, it’s not the getting dressed bit that is difficult, it’s looking and feeling the part before you walk out that door.
Now for those of you who know me, you’ll know I’m a woman who always makes time for style. I will get up that fifteen minutes earlier to avoid a chaotic start to the day and I have an organised and up-to-date wardrobe that serves me well – and I highly recommend you do also.
Even in the evening, I encourage you to make time for your look and put it together carefully. There is nothing worse than rushing out of the house with a random outfit that makes you both look and feel uncomfortable.
So today I am bringing you into my world to offer a list of seven things I do and encourage you to do before leaving the house. Promise that you’ll nail your look each time you do:
-
-
- Check your back and front view in a full-length mirror. Now, I’m not talking a quick glance, spare a minute or so to really look over your look and make sure everything fits, is in place and visibly you look good. Oh and if you don’t own a full-length mirror, there are no alternatives – purchase one now!
- During your mirror session look at your overall appearance as you may need to add/remove something or change an item that you are wearing. As my style muse Olivia Palermo said (echoing the worlds of Coco Chanel) at last year’s Chadstone Icons of Style ~ Always take one thing off when leaving the house.

- Ask yourself if you feel comfortable in what you are wearing? Is it too tight or too short? Perhaps you keep fiddling with a hem or if you’ve decided that you won’t sit down in your jeans that day in case the zip gives in. Still not sure? Doing a squat is a good way to find out.
- Are you dressed appropriately for the occasion? Consider dress codes, daytime, evening time and work with what you’re comfortable in.
- Are you appropriately dressed for the place or venue? This ties into number four. Everywhere is a consideration from lunch with the ladies to the school pick up.
- Check that what you are wearing is in proportion. Regardless of whether your shoulders physically match your hip measurements to create balance, your clothes can certainly make them look like they do. Look for areas that look too bulky or a little plain and add/remove as necessary. Accessories are great to play with for the perfect balancing act.
- Finally, check you have your handbag essentials. Mine are perfume, lipstick and Illuminating Creme.
-
Now I know this list may look exhausting but it’s really only a few minutes work:) Practice it every day and you’ll soon become an expert in what makes you look and feel your best.
One final tip: avoid that snooze button in the morning and give your look the time it deserves – I promise you’ll feel better for it.
Do you have your own must-do’s you can share with our audience? I would love to know so list them below or on Facebook!

Agree on all of those! I often decide on my outfit the day before so I avoid standing there in the morning wondering what to wear!

Great Girl! I do mine day before and the week before if I can, so much clearer!!! xo

I agree, planning is the key. If I have a busy week ahead I sometimes plan the week’s outfits to save time.
Cindy Newstead says
Hi Mary, I do agree, planning ahead just takes away the stress! xo

Wish I could have the superpower to click my fingers and have all my ironing done! Otherwise I just grab the same old wrinkle-proof outfits over and over – it’s not really planning, it’s more like out of necessity!
Cindy Newstead says
Oh no Ros……..I hope this blog helped a little!!! xo

Great tips Cindy,
I find my whole day flows so much better when I start with an organised wardrobe. Most of us girls spend life looking after and organizing others and forget that we count too! That extra 15 minutes prep time is worth its weight in gold and soon becomes a “very effective habit”
Cindy Newstead says
Agree Nikki……we are so similar, I love organisation in general, however, as I adore my wardrobe, I put extra love and care into that! 🙂 xo
