How To Pack For The Snow
While some of us are grouchy about the cool weather and the multitude of clothing layers they do all come in handy if you’re off on a winter holiday.
Layers also come in handy with this cooler weather wondering around the nation as well, I know many people who wear their thermals under their clothes here in Melbourne!
So who is heading to the snow this season?
For those of you that said yes, may I come along?! I absolutely love the snow and skiing and it certainly makes the cool weather worth it 🙂
Now this is definitely NOT a Fashion Forward blog post because looking stylish in the snow can be difficult when it’s around the zero degree mark – keeping warm is a priority however, we are giving you some options that will help with your style selecting process.
So today, on a more practical note, I’ve put together a series of packing tips for your snow holiday. (Keep this post in your bookmarks for those opting for a white Christmas later this year).
Now beyond the essentials such as jackets and equipment, here are some additional tips I thought might be useful:
- It’s all about extras – extra gloves, extra pants, extra socks. Never underestimate the cold or the regular changing of clothes when moving from the slopes to the evening loft activities.
- Be sun smart – it sounds ridiculous but there is a high chance you will get burnt on the mountaintop. The reflection from the sun to the snow will only accelerate the burn. There is also nothing worse than a burnt goggle shape around your eyes to go home with. So bring along sunglasses/goggles and lip balm with SPF.
- Neck Warmers – leave the pretty urban scarf at home and opt for a wool or thick textured neckwarmer. Something that is longer can also be wrapped around your head or face if the weather really hits.
- Thermals – the faithful under layers. Long johns, tops and thermal underwear should be figure hugging and used to layer beneath your snow gear. Consider warm but breathable fabrics such as Merino Wool or polypropylene. There is a great range at Icebreaker and Snowgum.
- Waterproof yourself. Where possible, opt for waterproof gloves, boots and jackets.
- Once you’re through with warming yourself up with clothing and accessories, reward yourself with a glass of red or soak up the surroundings with a mug of hot chocolate around a log fire – bliss!
To end this post with a laugh, can you see whats wrong with the next picture?! 🙂
As always, we’d love to hear from you if you can offer any other holiday tips or have your own snow look you’d like to share. I look forward to seeing you in the comments below.

Helly Hansen for the best ski parkas. Never been so toasty and dry in the snow before. Truly a wonderful product and you only need a fine merino thermal on underneath in temps less than zero.
