New Spring Looks and Fashion Trends
Many of my clients confess to me that Spring and Summer dressing is incredibly daunting. From feeling they have bulked out over winter, are paler than they would like, have concerns about varicose veins or don’t like their arms, it can be a minefield for them coming out of winter hibernation and feeling exposed with more skin on show!
The truth is nobody is perfect, and while this season can bring your insecurities to the forefront of your mind, there is so much clever styling can do for you. The right lengths, cuts and styles can have a powerful impact on your appearance, minimising those problem areas and having you excited about the sunnier skies and social events coming your way!
If we think of the positives of the Spring/Summer season, the sunshine and warmer weather gives you the opportunity to be more vibrant, bring bolder colour, brighter tones, bold floral and print in your outfits.

Spring sees the return of the social scene; days are longer with more events and celebrations filling our calendars. Here are a few looks perfect for the fresh season.
What a perfect all-rounder this statement silk dress from Gorman is!
Not only a smart casual look for day wear, but it is also easily dressed up with patent pump, chunky heel and the addition of accessories. Also picking up the metallic trend this season it can be worn to any after five occasions or event as a stylish statement.
Perfect cut for an Inverted Triangle or Hourglass with a stiffer fabric that can hide lumps and bumps 🙂
Wow! How beautiful is this season’s bell sleeve?! HUGE and featuring heavily in the look books of Seed, Sussan and Witchery. Bringing the 70’s back to life, the bell sleeve brings a sexy, feminine head-turning look to the everyday person.
Perfect for an hourglass or rectangle, this colourful piece needs to be worn by one toned individual! No bumps allowed, but if you have it flaunt it 🙂
We have teamed this dress with a statement necklace in gold and black, is another huge trend this season. The mules for this look bring an edgier but also more casual take on a sexy look, and you could even throw this on over bathers to the beach that’s how versatile it is!
Jumpsuits and pinafores are a big hit this season. I think this trend is fantastic as it gives you so many options for your overall look with this one versatile piece.
I am loving this Veronika Maine standout option. It suits most body shapes including an oval, hourglass, and rectangle.
You can dramatically change your look with different shapes and colours underneath including a fresh white high neck singlet for an elegant look. You need to wear this look with a statement wide leg unless of course you are over 6ft or happy to wear high heels or platforms to carry off a slimmer leg.
If you prefer a simpler look, or not game enough for a jumpsuit, this Pinafore-esque dress is a fantastic alternative. Mix and match options underneath, colours and shapes to reflect your personality and mood for the day. Looking amazing with mules, and a statement necklace or dressed down for a more playful weekend vibe, this will be on high rotation.
Pale chambray denim with a mule, what a fun and breezy look. This top is fantastic to cover a tummy and can go with everything including white or black jeans or a pencil skirt.
We have ramped up the fashion stakes with matching shorts. If you have killer legs, these shorts are a fantastic option for wearing with a wedge or with flats to the beach.
Another nod to the 70’s, long maxis are everywhere this season. The contemporary maxi has elegant side slits, also making them easy to move in. The beauty of this Seed maxi is it’s thin but doesn’t require a slip. This off the shoulder style has a flattering drawstring but could also be belted to bring even more elegance. The brilliance of maxi dresses is that most shapes can wear them.
Looking for an edgier style? This embossed jacket and short-styled together are packed full of punch, but worn separately they create so many options.
Wear the jacket with white jeans and a mule, or perhaps black slacks or a wide leg trouser glammed up for an evening eclectic look.
The shorts on their own are easily teamed with many different tops in a style perfect for your body shape, this piece that Lacey has selected brings personality, but a simple white style will bring classic elegance.
Spring/Summer is an exciting time for fashion and Zimmerman, Alice Mcall and Sass and Bide are among my personal favourites for the season.
Seed are doing a great job with casual pieces and Witchery, Veronika Maine and Jacquie E have many versatile options for classic capri pants.
Don’t forget Target has many different pant options if you are on a budget and Country Road have fantastic corporate options in their new wear to work range.
If you are looking to show a little less skin this season, a palazzo pant for the season is wonderful if you have the confidence to shine.
The casual relaxed elastic waisted pant featured in Seed, Sussan and French Connection need to be worn with the right shoe; otherwise they will look like pyjama pants! I recommend a mule for this season and Tony Bianco, Jo Mercer and Gorman have fabulous options.
Speaking of wearing the right shoe… you may have noticed the sneaker trend!
A word of warning on the Sneaker trend.. while it works with some looks, it can be tricky to pull off! On some body types, the white sneaker can make you appear dumpy, rather than the relaxed chic look you see in advertisements. I have personally reflected on how I could wear this look, and while it seems effortless and comfortable, I know it just won’t work for me. Sometimes you need to be realistic and ask yourself can I really carry this look off? Do I have the height, the body type? If not that’s ok, what else works for me and make me feel confident and fabulous?
What are you loving this season?
