What To Wear To The Races 2016
I love shopping with my clients this time of year! Why?
Spring Racing Fashion!
Spring Racing fashion is a chance to explore your creativity and is the perfect time of year to express your individuality.
I love purchasing unique and beautiful outfits with my clients from an array of incredible pieces brought into stores specifically for race goers.
The warmer weather and full social calendar brings such an excitement to my shopping expeditions as everyone is gearing up to re-emerge after the winter hibernation.
With the Spring racing calendar comes the celebrated fashion traditions with dress codes that inspire you to really get creative within the theme of the day.
I thought I would share with you some Spring Race Day looks with this season celebrating individuality, colour and femininity while of course adhering to tradition.
This seasons fashions on the field are inspired by florals, brights, and pastels.
Bold cobalt and fuschia are the huge this season, with baby blue, pink and nude representing the softer hue scene.
Bold and beautiful prints plus will also feature heavily on the spring track with Ted Baker and Alannah Hill must visit stores for exploring the trend this season.
This season we see a shift towards separates such as the midi skirt, culottes and crop tops. I absolutely love this trend as it means those beautiful pieces for race day can later be worn in different ways, allowing you to get wear out of these investment pieces.
A versatile floral midi skirt and matching crop top with a delicate heel is Oaks Day ready, a coordinated blooming headpiece completing your look.
Don’t forget a statement clutch or pair of delicate gloves, you can find beautiful gloves at Alannah Hill and Myer and David Jones have a huge selection of clutches this time of year.
You do not have to spend a fortune on millinery if your budget does not allow. Get creative with headpieces made from brooches, headbands and clips. Use differing textures and jewelled headpieces to bring a feminine glamour, while a voluminous bloom brings a celebratory playfulness to your look.
Adhering to tradition, monochrome is the quintessential look for Derby Day. New season geometric shapes and stripes will be fresh, and white on white a statement on the day.
I love this lace look, it is ladylike and sophisticated bringing volume and detail. Beautiful layering with a fresh white cape or spring scarf in a gorgeous georgette or silk will make a simple outfit more interesting.
Melbourne Cup Day will be an explosion of colour where daring fuschia, cobalt blue and graphic prints will create a vivid expression of personality. If you are wearing colour look for headpieces in neutral colours, whites or metallic.
Feminine floaty styles are the epitome of Stakes Day fashion. Neutral and soft colours with delicate embellished headpieces and jewellery complement soft tailoring and longer hemlines.
Think feminine florals and pastels which are perfect for wearing with high nude natural leather sandals to achieve the effortless look of the most relaxed day in the racing calendar.
My top tip for choosing your look:
This is the time to express yourself and have FUN with fashion!
Resist the urge to play it safe and get creative!
