The Land of Layering and Fine Fabrics
In the land of layering and fine fabrics, there is only one brand that comes to mind – Metalicus.
Producing flattering outerwear bodywear, Metalicus first started to produce their modern, pared-back designs in 1992.
Since then, the brand has evolved to become a lifestyle brand and is headquartered in Melbourne where the Metalicus design team create styles that can be layered or worn as simple basics.
I started using Metalicus in the early days of my styling career and it’s their versatility in fabric and fit which makes this a wonderful store for both layering looks and outerwear.
Now, when visiting a store, don’t be fooled by the slim-looking items hanging on the sales racks, these garments are designed to stretch, accentuate and flatter you.
This unique stretch fabric also known as “Bodytight” is designed for foundation pieces such as the seamless slip. It is ideal for layering as it sits close to the skin but remains breathable and comfortable.
Metalicus also offer a range of lightweight cotton and fine knit pieces that range from body hugging styles to looser silhouette items.
In terms of suitability, I believe Metalicus is ageless with something suitable for young women right up to your sixties plus.
This also goes for sizing which is measured at 0 (6 to 8), 1 (8 to 10) and 2 (12+). Sometimes sizes 18 and 20 are catered for so get in store and try the items.
In terms of style, Metalicus love a modern aesthetic and offer an extensive colour palette. Many clients will opt for the black and neutrals but there is certainly a burst of colour all year round for those seeking a brighter look.
So now it’s over to what I found in-store. You’ll see in the photos that I’ve regularly layered with the long line cardigan which is very edgy and generous in size.
The basic ¾ sleeve top is fantastic to layer with and there are also a series of singlet’s available as the weather warms.
Other loves include this well very priced stripe skirt at $59.95 and I loved the drape (Kahlo) blazer that looks amazing up close.
In terms of pants, Metalicus have a great ponti pant in a cigarette leg for only $99.95. The high waist and thick fabric works wonders for your figure while another pair of viscose/cotton blend pull on pants for $149.95 (Elliot) are also divine.
So if you like mixing coordinates, layering items and fabrics that feel luxurious on the skin, head in store – I’ll see you there!
Where is your favourite place to shop for layering?

I couldn’t live without my Metalicus basics, Cindy. I have the long and 3/4 sleeves to go under everything and brilliant for cooler days or a very fine layer under a fitted or structured jacket. Wash and wear, no ironing and wrap up to nothing when travelling. A must in every girl’s wardrobe. I’ve also found the striped skirt aan fab layer to go under a loose flowing black dress, with yet another layer on top…..so much to play with!
ps you look so good in that skirt
Love
Nikki
