Runway to Every Day Model Series: Part 4

With the launch of my new book and our Spring Racing Carnival workshops with Chadstone – The Fashion Capital, it has been an eventful week for Style With Cindy!

We hope you are enjoying the style posts and the in-store events if you managed to come along. Speaking of which, this also brings us to the halfway point of our Runway to Every Day model series.

With three lovely ladies left to review, today we bring you our client, Nicole.

Nicole is 40 years of age and wears a size 10 – store dependent. (Note to check out this article on Cosmopolitan’s review of the sizing inaccuracy in Australia).

Nicole has completed multiple shops with Cindy, a wardrobe consultation and also been an audience member at past Style Review events.

Body Shape:

While Nicole is an inverted triangle body shape she also reflects a rectangle shape (also known as a H shape). Dressing Nicole all equated to giving her shape particularly through her waist without adding bulk to her broader upper body.

Outfit One: Casual

We’ve built on Nicole’s shape in this outfit using a two-piece ensemble.

Playing with this season’s monochromatic trend in the top we’ve opted for short/capped sleeves to soften her shoulder area with the black part of the top quite slimming.

Crochet is this season’s new lace that brings texture and interest to the top working as the key piece of the outfit. Crochet is generally considered quite a “boho” trend but when paired with more structural pieces can be quite elegant.

Many women fear wearing drawstring pants for their lack of shape. However, we urge you to try them because they are not only super comfortable but can be quite flattering for an inverted triangle body shape.

The string detail on the pants draw the eye to Nicole’s middle section, highlighting her waist while the soft fabric translates the outfit to daytime. We’ve opted for neutral/warm accessories to complete the outfit.

Outfit Two: Smart Casual

Nicole nailed this season’s freshest (and most challenging) trend: white on white. In this look, we’ve taken a page out of the sports-luxe trend and kept the outfit quite strong and tailored.

The best way to work white on white is to play with different textures and shades of white as seen here with Nicole’s top and blazer.

The blazer shapes her shoulders beautifully and we’ve kept the detail on her top half simple as this is quite a minimalist look.

The pants are tailored and bring shape to Nicole’s bottom half, highlighting her waist and balancing out her body to give her a strong, feminine look.

To break up this sophisticated look, we used a watch, a necklace and beige accessories as an accent.

Outfit Three: Evening

Nicole shined in her final outfit in bold coral and simple black accessories.

The warm coral hue works beautifully with Nicole’s personal attributes and is a great colour choice for the warmer months.

The sleeveless style and soft fabric of this dress softened Nicole’s broader shoulder area and sat at a flattering knee-length. Due to the fabric’s flowing nature, all we had to do was use a belt (we chose black for a strong contrast) to draw all the attention to Nicole’s waist giving her a beautiful feminine shape.

While Nicole is already quite small, this outfit slims her body and highlights her features perfectly.

Thanks to the bold coral colour, we only had to link in the minimal detailing on the dresses necklace with a bracelet, clutch and chose a strappy shoe to translate to the evening.
