VAMFF Runway 5: Cosmopolitan

Heels, champagne and fashion – the three key things to get you through fashion week.

We were invited to attend the VAMFF Runway 5 as VIP guests and receive an exclusive first look at some of the latest collections.

So let us set the scene because fashion week is not as cliché as some of you may think. Sure we say fabulous a lot but it’s beautiful to be in a place where fashion is so highly valued and where we can connect with the industry and style enthusiasts.

We arrived at Central Pier, Docklands, just in time for Melbourne’s brilliant sunset. Being the 21st century, we of course grabbed a photo and were on our way.

Along our travels we stumbled across the adorable Dulux Dog. She had been there all day and could we could not resist a photo! If you’re wondering why a paint company is at fashion week, know that Dulux are a sponsor and actually collaborated with Australian designers, Romance Was Born and Gorman were used this year to create interiors inspired by their collections. Pretty cool stuff.

We arrived on time (we don’t believe in being fashionably late) and there were incredibly long queues with women hoping to get an L’Oreal make over pre show. Like many events, we observed an abundance of smartphones capturing looks, fashion and surroundings. Yes, as did we.

So our tickets as stylists and a media outlet basically gave us a front(ish) seat in Row C and best of all access to the VIP room, wristband required.

With champagne in hand, we saw our morning client who won the VAMFF competition to be styled by Cindy.

 

She looked gorgeous, confident and we’re happy to say Cindy styled her from head to toe for this evening’s event.

As expected, the VIP room saw some very clicky and eclectic groups but we were very disappointed with the fashion we saw.

We did enjoy a giggle when we saw not one, not two but four friends wearing the same pair of shoes! Unfortunately, no one in the crowd really took our eyes, there was much more of a focus on wearing head to toe trends than on looks that really stood out and were complementary to the body shape.

Thankfully, we then took our seats for the 9:30pm show, had a great view and managed to observe some very beautiful pieces for AW14.

The labels featured included Cameo, Finders Keepers, Keepsake, Jaggar, Rodeo Show, Talulah, Rodeo Show and Wild Horses.

The runway itself featured many of Cindy’s forecasted trends, including bold colours, prints and leather ensembles.

 

 

 

 

As expected, Cameo, Finders Keepers and Keepsake offered the most impressive and versatile collections.

As Runway 5 was presented by Cosmopolitan magazine, we received a free magazine and went straight home to prepare for round 3!
