Dannii Minogue Redefines “Petite” For Target
Following four days facilitating a fun yet intense personal stylist training course, I spent the last day’s lunch break at Target change-room bound with Dannii Minogue’s new fashion collection.
If you haven’t heard, Miss Minogue has launched an exclusive Petites range as part of the “Designers for Target” program and I have been so excited to try it.
Dannii has worked to redefine the word “petite” focusing on cut and form rather than purely small sizes.
“Petite doesn’t just mean small, it’s all kinds of shapes and sizes,” she says of the collection.
“That’s why you’ll find my range in sizes 4 – 16, because I think all women should be able to look and feel amazing.”
In an interview with Kate Waterhouse over the weekend, Dannii also revealed that many petite women have to buy kid’s clothing in order to make them fit. She also discussed her own struggles with shopping, a driver for creating the collection.
I hear very similar stories from my own clients so was looking forward to seeing if Dannii’s collection could indeed offer petite ladies beautiful and fit-worthy pieces.
So now to the verdict:
Ladies, I was pleasantly surprised. Many pieces in the collection fit and complimented my size 6 to 8 clothing size along with lengths that worked with my five-foot height.
The range is also very well priced, there is nothing over $100 and the fabrics were also beautiful.
In terms of colour, Dannii has opted for a mostly classic palette including black, white, green and a touch of citrus yellow and lime.
While there isn’t a vast range of colours, the collection is designed to mix and match pieces quite effortlessly.
For ladies that love a trend, I think you will enjoy the print pieces and some modern cuts including 7/8 pants and a jumpsuit piece. So with an event in mind (my Noosa trip in four weeks and counting) I sought to find a few items I could take along:
1. Dannii Minogue Petites Black Jumpsuit RRP $59
While it only came in black, this jumpsuit is incredibly flattering. It features a lightweight fabric and relaxed fit that worked wonders with my silhouette.
It’s made from a soft hammered satin fabric, draws in at the waist and offers a full-length pant that tapers. I’m wearing a size 6 in this piece and could team it with a waist belt to break it up or a long pendant to further elongate my look.
2. Dannii Minogue Petites White Pleat Back Knit RRP $49
This piece is a beautiful basic constructed from soft and breathable cotton.
The hi-low hem and pleat back gives this top a point of difference and it could be worn with jeans or over this seasons fitted midi skirt.
3. Dannii Minogue Petites Black Bustier Maxi Dress RRP $79
This maxi dress is great for the warmer months and very on-trend with the faux leather bodice. The skirt part of this maxi is made from the same material as the jumpsuit offering a flattering fit which effortlessly moves with your body.
The back features an exposed gold zip and adjustable straps which are great for smaller frames, as the dress does not consume you. It could also be layered with a colourful jacket or throw-over to break up the black.
4. Dannii Minogue Petites Spliced Batwing Cardigan RRP $59
This would be a similar version of the long line cardigan that I talk so much about. It’s a great piece for moving into spring and perfect for layering over your existing look.
The soft, lightweight fabric and the batwing style sleeves offer a relaxed and casual fit. I really like the black and taupe colour contrast, as it would work well with a variety of colours.
Now in terms of length, the collection does cater for taller petite frames – we’re not all short. For example, in the promotional photo for the collection, Dannii is wearing the Emerald Sheath Dress that is a fitted piece designed to be below the knee but is actually too long for me.
Additionally, the Black Tuxedo Jacket, which works with almost all the pieces, also offers a longer hem that is great for taller ladies. In contrast, the Suede Biker Jacket is designed to be cropped but sits perfectly on my waist which is great for those seeking a “shorter” fit.
To summarise, I think Dannii has done a wonderful job with the collection and if like me, you struggle to find clothes that fit – these will.
So now it’s over to you. Have you seen, tried or brought anything in the collection?
Would love to see your looks on Instagram or Facebook. www.facebook.com/StyleWithCindy
