Greece: Fashion Report From The Mediterranean City

Hello everyone from gorgeous Greece!

I have arrived in extremely hot weather which has me giving my “not so black” summer wardrobe a workout as I make my way through the charming landscape of this country.

In terms of fashion, there is a touch of Grecian goddess inspiration through the large amount of strapless maxi dresses available in a variety of colours and patterns while boot cut jeans are the preferred cut of denim here.

 

I’m not too thrilled with the in-store experience as it very hard to find quality stores in Athens and small boutiques are difficult to come by.

Visual merchandising is lacking and product is presented messily which could be due to the lack of sales directed by the retail downturn Europe is experiencing.

Sizing was also an issue as I find the sizing quite big with a few disappointing moments in change rooms when I found something I loved but could not get it to fit correctly.

However I did find one very Melbourne-ish dress in Mango that I can’t wait to bring home.

I have opted for flats while walking through all the major sites but in the neighbourhood of Plaka, within the Acropolis area, sandals and wedges are the way to go. Now if the wedge shoe fits, buy one in every colour – and that I almost did!

Shoes are in absolute abundance here, particularly wedges and I purchased two pairs of wedges along with some cushioned flats for walking.

The evening saw Cal and I enjoy dinner in the Plaka where I took up one of my favourite pastimes – people (style) watching. There are so many stunning women walking the Greek streets, mainly younger women and it was lovely to observe the majority of people (both tourists and locals) making the effort to look nice for the warm evening ahead.

While Athens was delightful, I have just headed over to the southern island of Santorini. I am one day in and I’m impressed – visitors and Greeks alike, this town knows how to dress! There is absolutely stunning fashion here where resort wear reigns and clothes are a little bit more up market.

Within my first few hours on the island, I purchased a pair of pure silk shorts and I can’t wait to take my time browsing through all (well almost) of the shops over the island.

There is but one problem: I only have three days to conquer the shops on this island so wish me luck!
