Home Personal Stylist Blog Every Day Style How To Use Shoes and Accessories to Appear Slimmer

How To Use Shoes and Accessories to Appear Slimmer

Ladies there are many clever ways to create outfits and dress yourself to achieve a particular purpose.

One of the most common objectives for women in particular, is to create the illusion of appearing slimmer. This can be easily achieved through selecting the right clothing and accessories for your body shape. Patterns and prints, fabrics, clothing cuts and colour can be strategically chosen to visually trim down certain areas of your body and give you an overall slimmer silhouette.

Today, my focus is on shoes and accessories and how these little marvels can work wonders.

It’s important to remember that it’s not just your size that matters but also the size of your accessory.

The aim is to balance your body out with any outfit you create. This approach will work for everyone, even if you are a little overweight.
Here are some key pointers to consider:

Accessories

If you are a full-figured woman, carrying a tiny purse or wearing a thin belt will only draw attention to your size. Larger women should instead opt for a medium-sized purse, a wider belt, a bigger watch or perhaps a necklace with a larger pendant.

You will be surprised at how balanced accessories can make you appear slimmer. Its all about being in proportion.

Shoes

Dainty shoes on a larger woman can sometimes give the illusion that the shoes might slide out from underneath her feet or contribute to making her look larger than she is. The shoes you choose to wear will also play a part in balancing your size and height.

It is important not to buy something just because it looks good on someone else or is on-trend – choose according to your size.

If you are looking to add height to your figure, choosing a wedge shoe is a great start as this style of shoe will immediately add height and balance your body shape.

Also, consider a pointy-toed shoe to elongate a short body as this shoe design will make you appear taller and slimmer.

A final note on shoes: If you are trying to achieve height, watch out for shoes with dark-coloured ankle straps. These can visually cut the length of the leg at the ankle which can make the entire leg appear shorter and undo the benefit of wearing heels. Instead, consider an open toe shoe that is a wedge which will really help you add height and elongate you.
