As an image consultant and personal fashion stylist living in Melbourne, Winter is one of the seasons that I enjoy the most. When the Winter fashion arrives, it is a time when we can get more creative with what we wear. With the boots, the coats, the layering, it’s by far the best season for fashion.
The beauty of shopping in Melbourne is that we have not only all of the fashion labels from around the world, but we also have our own designers here in Australia. Winter fashion is stylish, and without a doubt, our fashion designers are right up there with the best in the world!
I love boots in Winter, and in fact, they are the one fashion staple I don’t mind paying more for. I make sure I buy my boots at the start of the winter season, when I may not get them discounted, but I will get the size and style I want. But this is not just relating to my own shoe fetish, boots are an important aspect of anyones Winter wardrobe. They are always going to feature prominently because they are a practical piece of Winter Fashion, but the right pair can also make any outfit look fantastic.
Winter jackets and coats are another favourite, although I don’t jump in and buy mine straight away. Since it can take a while for the cold to really set in, I tend to take more time on this and hunt for a bargain. This year, the trench coat has been very prominent on catwalks, as have the military jackets.
Skinny jeans have been a huge hit this winter
Skinny jeans have been a huge hit this winter, as they often are. The issue with skinny jeans however, is that they don’t always look good on everyone. I personally feel that they can look ok on the younger, and very slim girls, but too often I see them on the wrong body shape, and in these cases they are completely unflattering. There are so many other options of jeans and trousers that are just as stylish, we just need to know how to wear them.
Black is always in, and always looks classic and stylish, not to mention flattering, on most body shapes. You might also notice that red has reared its head this winter, which is great, because it breaks up the dark winter colours. It also looks as though it will feature prominently this summer.
Winter is a great time for covering up, hiding those bits and pieces that can sometimes be gained in the warmer months. The Winter fashion gives us a bit of breathing space to prepare our bodies for summer, when we don’t wear too much at all!
