My London Fashion Update
I have arrived in beautiful London town and as you might expect, I hit the shops almost immediately and have to say that I’m impressed!
In terms of fashion discoveries, I uncovered a multitude of designers I’ve never heard of and of course found plenty of the same labels we have back home in Australia.
While I’ve been fortunate enough to arrive amidst the end of sale season, this also means sales stock sizing is fairly limited but this hasn’t deterred me – my European shopping pursuit is just beginning.
In terms of favourite shopping spaces, I loved sifting through the floors of Selfridges and of course taking in the beautiful and luxurious fashion within Harrords.
It has been my first visit to Top Shop in a few years and I was pleasantly surprised at the improvement in garment quality compared to what I’ve seen in the Melbourne store. Here is a photo of a top and pants ensemble I purchased at Top Shop – it doesn’t really radiate low-end chain store right?
From a trend analysis perspective I’ve come across a lot of pastel colours, naturals along with cobalt and white fashion so watch for these colours this spring in Australia. There is also a great push towards contrast so perhaps we’ll see colour blocking appear for round two during the warmer months.
On the streets, the men have impressed me the most and have been very well dressed overall while I’m divided over what I’ve seen women wearing.
While some women effortlessly exude the renowned European elegance, there were many dressed quite ordinary in the heart of the city. Although in contrast, it is difficult to tell who might be a tourist vs. a local in London.
The only disappointment to report would be that I’ve only been able to spend four days in London. I’ve fallen in love with the city and wish I had more time to trawl through the shops.
In terms of activities in between shopping, we have been eating in the city’s hot spots and Cal, his daughter and I enjoyed a gorgeous Sunday brunch in an organic café in Notting Hill. Naturally, shopping followed as we wandered down Portobello Road Market and I picked up this gorgeous silver bracelet for just $25 AU.
I love purchasing accessories on holidays as they fit so neatly in my luggage or in worst case, I wear them on the plane.
The Santini shoes I spoke about in my last post have been my saviour and stylishly comforted my tired feet from hours of walking. I’m yet to experience jet lag as I’m still running on pure adrenalin and the excitement of being here.
So to wrap it up, I love London shopping and highly recommend the city.
