All About Eyes

There is something happening with eyes in the beauty world. The last year has been very driven by lashes along with the ongoing debate about whether eyebrows are really that important.

When it comes to eyelashes, the market is filled with mascaras claiming to lengthen, plump, thicken and nourish them. Lash extensions have also dominated in the last few years and have been supported by celebrities sporting the trend. However, recently the focus has been on enhancing your own lashes and going ‘al naturale’.

Our eyelashes work hard to protect our eyes and for those of us who use mascara and curl (or heat curl) can damage them if they are not well maintained. We’re increasingly seeing primers and serums designed to nourish and grow our lashes along with mascara’s with built in proteins to minimise lash loss and strengthen them.

So whilst we invest a lot of time in protecting the hair on our head, remember those delicate eyelashes and keep them healthy so they can continue to charm.

Now to the brow…yes…they are very important. The eyebrow is not an area to be ignored because with the right shape and colour, you can enhance your entire face – including a more-youthful appearance.

It was only last year that former Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins was accused of a facelift. She credited her “new look” to an eyebrow shape – thicker, fuller and customised to her face. So forget the botox and try reshaping your brows. You can even tint them if they’re greying or you’ve changed your hair colour.

When finding your shape, I don’t encourage you to go it alone – see a brow specialist. Choose your hair removal method whether it be waxing or threading and if your brows aren’t in “great shape” prepare to be patient.

Over-plucking and too-thin brows are common with women. Growing your brows out can be difficult and it can be difficult not to over-pluck in between visits when you’re waiting for the hairs to grow back. For a helping hand, caster oil has been recognised as a well-known growth agent.

You can’t really choose an eyebrow shape you like, as a good brow technician will customise your own shape designed to suit your face. So although you may love a celebrities eyebrows and wish to replicate them, it may not necessarily work on your face. Just like customising your clothes to your body shape – every eyebrow shape is different.

And for those of us who would like to manscape our men’s eyebrows – you certainly can. But again, don’t over-pluck as mens eyebrows should remain masculine and never “shaped”.

It reminds us that focusing on the finer details of our appearance can have maximum impact. Whether it is a manicured hand or a touch of lip-gloss on a natural face. So revisit your beauty routine and be sure to head north and give the eyes a pamper. It’s a delicate area and the smallest maintenance can offer amazing results.
