Footy Finals Fever: In Style
Well it’s that time of year again – AFL and NRL finals!
Now I know for many of you this means absolutely nothing at all but for others, it’s a big day!
Whether you’re passionate about the game and will be heading off to the stadium or enjoying at a friends party or work gathering, it’s a day you’re looking forward to.
Then there are those of us who go along for the social aspect – and food – and drinks.
Oh and for those wondering why I’m writing about sport on a style blog…well…it is an event and sometimes a dress code is required from super casual to corporate flair.
Now, unfortunately I was working last year due to terrible planning, but this Saturday I will be watching the game at home on TV. I barrack for Collingwood (be nice) so in their absence I’ll be cheering loudly for the team with the nicest looking jumper.
However, I am a little restricted to a sea of yellow with Hawthorn and West Coast and even the Brisbane Broncos sporting mustard coloured jerseys.
These days, grand final day is a little more low key but I still dress for the occasion.
So what to wear?
If you’re fortunate enough to nab a box seat at the game, smart casual is key. The great thing about corporate sport venues is an acceptance of denim.
It also depends who you’re going with. For example, if you’ve been invited or are hosting clients, you may want to dress up a touch.
A seat at the MCG or ANZ Stadium calls for casual and comfortable with any weather barriers you need to think about. So layer and take along cardigans, hats and yes – the poncho should it rain or to protect you from the sun, which seems to be more likely given the weather forecast as this stage. Enjoy the poncho now, it’s the only time I’ll ever encourage you to wear one!
At the game I also encourage team dressing, use the colours of the teams through scarves, shirts and face paint for the little ones. It adds to the competition and is great for the spectator spirit!
House parties, BBQ’s or a local pub visit also call for smart to neat casual. If the weather warrants it, ladies might work a spring dress with a cover-up. Again – work in your team colours.
So now it’s over to why we’re here. For a little fun, we hit Chadstone for some casual house party looks along with something a bit dressier for the corporate events.
Now who’s going to the game or watching it somewhere?
Who has no interest at all?
Would love to know about your plans in the comments below and I hope you enjoyed today’s lighthearted blog.
Best wishes to all the teams this weekend.

As a mad Hawks Supporter, I’ll be heading to country road tomorrow for a look at their yellow
!! I never even thought of dressing in their colours (apart from the scaves, beanis and other hawks attire we have). Thanks Cindy.
