How to make a T-shirt & Jeans look more exciting
Do you ever have days when you’re relaxing in your favourite pair of jeans and a comfy tee and then all of a sudden, something comes up and you need to go out? Or a day when you have been out and about running errands and someone calls with plans for a movie or barbeque they want you to join in on? What do you do if you feel you can’t go as is but you just don’t feel like changing?
I get asked this question a lot and frankly, find myself in this situation often enough as well. My advice is to stick with comfort – remember feeling great is half the battle in looking great – but consider adding a little something to bring your look up a notch.
The trick to dressing up jeans is to think accessories. Start with shoes. Nothing dresses up a pair of jeans more, or makes them look more like a fashion statement, than a great pair of shoes. Heels of all kinds, a pair of fabulous boots, strappy sandals…. these all transform a sneaker and jeans casual Saturday into a ready for anything fashion choice.
Next think jacket. Yes, I think a jacket here is an accessory because it can totally transform your look. Whether you’re a cropped , tailored, boyfriend, linen or denim jacket kind of girl, a jacket or a blazer takes you from casual to stylish with no effort at all. Choose a splash of colour for daytime or a more dramatic look, or pick classic black for a more subdued look.
Now let’s think about another accessory I love to play with – and one of the easiest to have fun with – scarves. My favourite pair of jeans and a fabulous pair of boots can take me from a football game – when I’m wrapped with a cozy, knitted scarf – to a Autumn walk – when my look is adorned with a gorgeous silk scarf – to dinner – picture me in a stunning cream coloured wool-silk scarf.
It is impossible to think about fashion without thinking about jewellery. This is one element lazy weekends tend to lack and is an easy way to shift your look into higher gear. Most of the women I speak with say when they’re relaxing on a weekend they often go without jewellery. Rings, earrings, watches and necklaces often stay tucked inside drawers or jewellery boxes to be reserved for work or going out.
Take a look at this photo though and see how a chain necklace over a plain T shirt has made a difference to the look. Accessories can take an otherwise casual look and turn it into something more. Think a pair of outstanding earrings, bangles, pendant necklaces….
Don’t ditch your favourite jeans just because you’re leaving the house. Turn comfortable into stylish and head out the door looking and feeling great.
Would you take the extra 2 minutes to jazz your t-shirt and jeans before leaving the house?

Could you please tell me where I could find the soft pink blazer that your wearing over your white jeans. Is it linen?

Hi Joanne, We just put the details in the blog – my apologies, there was an error before! 🙂

Cindy, I’m finding denim jeans currently are too thin, have too much elastane/stretch, and don’t seem to last well. I used to like Riders, but they have become too thin and stretchy over the last couple of seasons. Levis seem to have the best denim, but they are usually short in the leg. Have you come across any brands that are using decent denim? Will good quality denim ever return?
Cindy Newstead says
Hi Andrea, I can recommend to try Diesel, Nobody and Lee just to name a few. Given that they are a cheaper option, JAG have great quality jeans 🙂 hope this helps!

Love all your looks Cindy, for a girl who doesn’t often wear jeans, you look amazing.
You inspired me to go straight to my wardrobe and have a play wih my favourite denims, white and stone jeans. What fun creating new “hot” looks. Thanks for your inspirational blogs, always have the “get up off your bottom” effect on me……off to play with new styles!
Love
Nikki

What a great blog post. I always seem to wear jeans because I don’t know what else to wear (and yes I’m considering your shopping advice soon). Anyway, today whilst out shopping at lunchtime, I went into Lovisa (where I never go) and purchased 4 amazing necklaces for a grand total of $16! They had massive sales 70% off and then buy one get one free!
At least now I know that I can add a statement necklace to my jeans outfit to dress it up a bit.
By the way – where did you get the necklace in the bottom photo? I love it.
Cindy Newstead says
Hi Janelle, thanks so much for your comments! Lovisa have some fantastic piece’s, so inexpensive. The necklace in the photo is actually from Levis. Glad you are enjoying my blogs!!! Xx
