Marsala: 2015 Colour of The Year
Marsala, a rich wine hue has been named by PANTONE® as 2015 Colour of The Year.
So what does this mean?
Well the team at PANTONE® are predicting that we will all be wearing Marsala in some form next year. Through clothes, accessories and lip colours. For the home lovers, you’ll even find it in furnishing and interiors.
For those of you who may not know, PANTONE® is a global colour authority. They have a team of forecasters who travel the world observing colour influences and trends in order to choose the colour.
Can you imagine making this difficult decision?
Through my own trend observations, I’m happy to say I have seen Marsala tones in many prints this SS15 fashion season but think it will really breakthrough in winter.
Think plum coloured knits, deep wine coloured jackets and a touch of burgundy in other pieces. It could indeed be the new winter black.
I also love the story behind the colour being chosen. It actually takes it’s name from Marsala, a fortified wine produced in the region surrounding the Italian city of Marsala, Sicily.
Leaning on the Italian lifestyle (including being food-inspired), the colour is also responding to a global desire for us all to step back.
I think this is very timely as we launch into the New Year and remind ourselves to spend time with our loved ones, digitally disconnect and be more present while taking time for the little things in life.
Fashion has a way of translating how you feel, telling your story to the world and I think the warmth in Marsala tells its story well.
Pour yourself a glass of Marsala and enjoy!
