Mystery Shop with Parisian Flare
Today’s mystery shop was indeed a bit of a mystery to me also.
It is not a store I frequently shop in. In fact, my last visit was a few years ago. However, following my experience during this blog post – I’m pleased to say I will be returning.
So let’s begin with some fashion facts: This brand launched in Australia approximately 15 years ago and has maintained quite a “boutique” feel to its’ stores despite having 127 across Australia, New Zealand and North America.
The clothing in store is displayed in a wardrobe like manner, combined with beautiful homewares and trinkets.
Now don’t take the interior design of the store as an assumption for what you’ll find inside. Be sure to explore the product as I was very surprised to find that this soft, feminine looking store offered a huge variety of fashion styles and tastes.
I found clothing size to be very generous which is a nice change from other retailers opting for the smaller side of the scale.
Their latest collection showcases splashes of cobalt blue, red in wine hues, grey, white and the ever-so-reliable winter shade that is black.
The brand is also working in some romantic floral prints that evoke a darker mood and are perfect for the cooler months.
Amongst the items, I was impressed with the array of choices in jeans, trousers and leggings.
The brand has considered all our denim favourites, with high-rise cuts, straight and skinny styles, black and blue and there is even a pair that comes zip-free for comfort.
This store credits themselves on quality and ethical manufacturing which I found evident through the gorgeous knitwear.
I tried on a cobalt blue knit and it was absolutely beautiful – now I know why – the cotton was blended with cashmere. It was thin and a great length for layering and it didn’t have the high price tag you’d expect.
Cardigan lovers will love the long line, short and collared knitwear pieces with timeless styles and current trends considered. One knit features a faux fur removable collar and for a touch of Navajo, there is also a beautiful black-fringed jacket.
All the knitwear I perused will work beautifully over jeggings or leggings and long boots.
Now it’s not all casual, I tried on a fine black pin tuck dress made up of 100 percent silk. It was very flattering and I loved the sheer sleeves. It was a little big for me so I have used a belt to cinch in the waist – you can too.
For those carrying a touch of tummy, this is a gorgeous dress to skim over the area. This brand know that the style is complimentary to many body shapes so they’ve also created it in a beautiful butterfly print and other textured pieces.
Back to the knits: I also found a 100 percent wool dress in blue in a slight A line. What I loved was that it was thin and warm without adding bulk. It could be belted or worn loose and is a great after five look (just add heels) or you can work it casually with boots, scarf, belt and hat for Sunday lunch.
Now for cover up, I have to give these guys credit. Leather, knits and quilting – I haven’t seen quilting in a while and I personally love it, as it’s so warm and so stylish.
Their classic black leather jacket is an investment piece but is completely timeless and will last years. I also loved the reversible two-tone jacket in wool. Clever.
Finally, when it comes to teaming your clothing with accessories, this brand has beautiful jewellery and scarves. It’s great to have a store where you can actually accessorise as you try the outfits on.
I was served by lovely ladies during my shop and according to the brand, the service nationally is so boutique and personal that many consumers think the store managers actually own the stores.
And now… closing with the strongest clue.
Upon walking in, you might feel tempted to say Bonjour instead of good morning. This store is filled with French ambience and Parisian inspired pieces to make you feel like you’ve just entered a beautiful boutique in one of Paris’ shopping districts.
So can you guess where I shopped?
It is Blue Illusion!
While I love all our mystery shops, this is one that really surprised me and I’m disappointed I haven’t frequented it more.
Give it a go, sizing 8 to 20 and beautiful quality pieces. You’ll also love the “small/boutique” ambience of the store.
It will make you want to pull up a chair and enjoy a croissant and espresso.
So… what did you think? Any clothing items you’re thinking of trying on or do you already love this store? I look forward to your comments below.

Thank you for doing a mystery shop at Blue Illusion Cindy. I’ve always loved “the look” of the store but thought of it as an older ladies clothing brand. I’m getting online now to have a good look through their range – I’m after a knit dress with long sleeves for my hourglass figure so hoping they have something (possibly in navy or charcoal). And I love the silk dress you have belted – was the belt from Blue Illusion too?
And can I ask where your boots are from too please?
Love finding new labels – so thanks again for reminding me of Blue Illusion. Carla x

I actually guessed this Mystery Shop! I have loved Blue Illusion for years. I’m wearing one of their pencil skirts at the moment. I’ve found their clothes to have a consistently high quality, and a long wear life; and you’re right – the shop staff are always very friendly and helpful!

I’m with you Cindy not a shop I had given much thought to. But have been following Styling You who regularly features Blue Illusion so have been doing a little shopping at the Noosa store. Have picked up some great pieces at very affordable prices. The staff are very friendly and got out of their way with customer service. I have been delighted with the quality and ease of wear of the pieces I have. They are very generous with vouchers which they send regularly to tempt you to visit. Have also shopped online with them and very happy with the service. I have learnt if I like something to buy it then as it is often sold out when I return.

Thats great to hear Sue, I hope someone from the brand reads this blog and looks at all the positive comments……not enough praise spread about these days, especially when people are so helpful in a store!! xo Ps: Miss Noosa 🙁 🙁

Thanks Cindy for a great review and opening our eyes to what looks like a lovely store which has some beautiful pieces!
I too thought this store was only for older ladies, but will definitely check them out in the future 😀

Thanks for the post Cindy, and the great photos!
I always think of Blue Illusion in terms of their quality, great fit – and creative, unusual prints. Their items tend to get a lot of use, because they aren’t hard to style, and they’re actually very comfy. For example, I’ve found that every spring they seem to bring out a classic 3/4 sleeve buttoned cardigan in a distinctive print that is perfect for petites and not too long or tight – especially if your waist is not clearly defined. And their pants are always especially layering-friendly.
BTW, with this sort of quality product it is definitely worth keeping a online eye on their sale stock – there are some great things available from the brand right now, for under $50 – check out their site.
And Cindy, I love that all elegant all-white outfit on you. The design is gorgeous. May I ask what brand?
