Product Investigation: LIFEwithBIRD

This week I’ve found myself in a fashion space surrounded by beautiful colours and rich fabrics – the delightful LIFEwithBIRD.

This Australian owned label has been operating for over a decade thanks to a creative collaboration between Bridget McCall (Bird), an accomplished photographer and fashion stylist and Nicholas Van Messner, a graduate of the acclaimed RMIT Fashion School.

From what was initially a bag and leather goods brand, LIFEwithBIRD quickly grew to provide modern women’s-wear attracting a market who appreciated the designers’ “boundary pushing” when it came to fashion.

The one thing I love about shopping with clients at LIFEwithBIRD is that their fashion caters for a diverse customer: ranging from teens to women in their sixties whilst offering sizes six to 14.

Their clothing also has an architectural aesthetic about it where every piece has been thoughtfully designed and produced.

To my modern fashion enthusiasts, you will love the gorgeous fabrics and beautiful styles that while they are current still manage to hold staying power in seasons to come.

Some readers will appreciate the simple, effortless pieces that focus on fabric, comfort and clothing that can become wardrobe staples while my trend-setters will love the fresh collection of colours and prints.

You’ll also find that LIFEwithBIRD offers styles that can be quite loose fitting, draping or romantically flowing to stronger silhouettes that see structured tailoring in dresses or tops.

My pick are their tops and blouses that are just amazing. It might be a classic shirt, but it will have it’s own unique twist that gives it a distinctive edge.

So in store now is LIFEwithBIRD’s latest collection that was inspired by Bridget and Nicholas’ recent travels to several perfumeries. The designer duo leaned on “multiple sensory elements and layers” to create their Spring Summer styles.

So this season you’ll find beautifully crafted digital prints on silk and chiffon pieces. While styles featuring Citron Rose Print, Compound Blue and Classic English Country Rose will certainly delight the senses (pun intended).

I purchased this beautiful dress that offers a simple cut and look but holds a slight edge thanks to the skirt. It’s the twist in this style that I love that enables it to remain stylish yet simple enough to last through a few fashion years 🙂

So we let the inspiration begin and played dress-ups in store to look at the sizing. Size zero which is a six was a little large on me in some pieces and too tight in the more structured styles moving me into a size one (size eight). So as always, head in store to try before you buy.
