RUNWAY TO EVERY DAY MODEL SERIES: JULIE
We’re straight into this week and introducing our second Runway to Every Day model – the foxy Julie.
Julie is 45 years old and wears a size 12 to 14. Julie came to Style With Cindy frustrated by her look that she described as “nanna”. In other words, Julie felt she was dressing older than her age and didn’t have items in her wardrobe that she thought really defined her.
Julie is a regular client of mine completing firstly a workshop, followed by a few shops.
Body Shape:
Julie is an inverted triangle, which is actually the most common body shape for women.
An inverted triangle is where women carry most of their weight in the top half of their body; through the shoulders, bust and stomach. The shoulders are generally wider than the hips and the legs are usually lean.
Aim: To balance Julie’s top and bottom half by bringing some definition through the waist and hips to create a strong feminine silhouette and utilise her slim legs.
Outfit One: Casual
Julie looked modern and stylish in her first ensemble, no nanna comparison in sight.
We opted for a black on black ensemble that played with this season’s leather and layered pieces appropriate for the cooler months ahead.
Julie’s pants are fitted showcasing her streamlined legs and we’ve teamed them with stiletto ankle boots to further elongate them.
With the top half of her body, we’ve kept the jacket zipped up (open would widen Julie), and the leather panel creates a little interest to the look without bulking her top section.
The shirt underneath peeks through at waist level which actually brings definition to her hips and breaks up the top and bottom.
We’ve brought in a seasonal pattern via the tote bag to keep the casualness of this look.

Outfit Two: Smart Casual
In your 40’s, the aim is to demonstrate class and elegance. However, elgance doesn’t just equate to purely pretty and feminine pieces, some edgier and strong structural pieces can also achieve this – fabric and fit is key.
We’ll begin with the beautiful two-tone coat in camel with black-coated sleeves. You’ll see the fabric exudes quality and neutral colours like camel, toffee, cream and beige will bring instant luxe to a look.
Underneath we’ve placed Julie in a peplum top over a leather-panelled skirt to achieve overall body balance.
You’ll see that the detail on the skirt brings the attention to Julia’s smaller, lower half of her body while the panelling through the top helps the bust look smaller.
Note the elbow length of the top that is flattering and draws attention away from Julie’s top section. Sleeve length is very important when dressing for body shape as it has the ability to distract or attract the eye to all the right places.
Minimal accessories were required, so we just opted for a low-heeled black shoe.

Outfit Three: Evening
We created this top to toe look from CUE for Julie to really bring in some beautifully structured pieces and we think she looks divine.
Again, Julie exudes elegance but with a touch of glamour and fun through this monochromatic ensemble.
We’ve used a white peplum top that is belted to bring definition to the waist and hips. It also features a panel zip down the middle and we’ve kept it closed a little above Julia’s bust for the décolletage to peek through without further widening her top area.
The cover up is a simple black blazer that is beautifully tailored. Again it sits at the waist aiding definition with the peplum part of the top peeking through to break up the look.
Now the straight skirt is the hero of this outfit bringing all the attention below creating Julie’s beautiful shape. The skirt plays with an array of patterns and prints, complementing the simple top part of the outfit and sits knee length so Julie’s lovely pins are still on display
In terms of accessories we’ve gone for the classics: sling back heels and a glomesh clutch. Yes – welcome back glomesh!
Mission accomplished. We were so honoured to help Julie rediscover just how beautiful her body shape is and begin unearthing her own personal style – we think she looks incredibly good!
