What I’ll Be Showcasing at Runway To Every Day
Ladies (and brave gents), we are less than 48 hours away from the first of my two Runway to Every Day styling workshops at Chadstone – The Fashion Capital!
The events are now officially sold out however you’re still welcome to come along.
As the runway will be presented in a public area outside David Jones, there will be standing room beyond the seats and from the balcony above. I’ll have a mic so you’ll hear all my style tips and details of the latest Autumn fashion trends.
Speaking of which, this year I have assembled the strongest and most versatile trends of the season where every age and body shape is invited.
This year, we’re seeing an array of updated classics with a focus on structured, tailored and quality pieces as consumers begin to value fashion-investment.
However, investment doesn’t mean a ridiculous price tag so I’ve ensured the looks you see at Runway to Every Day will offer various price points and clothing brands.
Now you may not consider yourself a trend-follower, neither do I.
However, each season I do evaluate what fashion designers unveil and if it works for my body shape, age and personal taste – I’ll consider it – particularly if the trend offers longevity beyond it’s scheduled season.
So now it’s over to the trends:
Tartan
This definitive and timeless print is the perfect addition to a casual or smart casual look.
We’ll see structured pieces, from tops, dresses to pants offering a tartan print that is a little softer than usual.
Layered or stand-alone, tartan will beautifully complement your dark pieces in your winter wardrobe and works well with leather, denim or a tailored pant.
For those who think tartan may be a little ambitious, try to work the trend in through accessories via a bag, scarf or belt.
Leather
Each season the fashion world manages to reignite leather and 2014 is the biggest year yet.
Leather is no longer reserved for rock stars nor do you need to sport a biker-chick look, this season leather is incredibly feminine and chic.
Look out for leather on the runway, you’ll see it in pants, skirts, jackets and coats with leather trim. Pieces will be feminine, structured and polished.
Not all is black either, you’ll see gelato, jewel and light tones in this sleek look and leather will be the strong and luxurious addition to your winter wardrobe.
Did we mention it’s super warm too?
Tailored Pants
It’s great to see pants are back after a strong jean and jegging reign.
Pants that feature pleated and flat fronts, fitted waistbands and a straight, wide or cigarette leg trouser will cover every body shape this season.
Look out for the luxurious materials in tailored pants this season including wool, linen, silk and satin.
This is a strong look that can be softened with the help or accessories or wearing a print pant in this seasons check or floral.
Using pattern can bring a real wow factor to your look whether it’s worn alone or with a clashing print.
Winter Coat
The winter coat will be heavy, warm but not so gloomy this season.
While we’ll still embrace the darker palette for winter along with beige and white those of us seeking a little winter bloom will enjoy the printed and textured seasonal coat.
Look out for a modern houndstooth, weed, muted, floral and animal print tone on this winter basic.
Some coats will be tailored and offer length while others will be a little more playful, flaring out in florals and having you swinging delightfully along the sidewalk.
The cape will be the superhero of the season and the “it” trend for the cooler months.
Statement Print
While winter clothing generally features traditionally muted colours where navy used to be the most exciting accent, we’re in for a bold season.
Look out for checks, geometric print, bold coloured florals and soft pastel tones of pink and grey on the runway.
There is something for everyone and it conveniently comes in all shapes, forms styles and colours.
There is nothing quite like a statement print to team with a foundation piece such as jeans or a leather skirt.
Bold Stripes
In case you haven’t gathered, it’s going to be a bright and bold winter for Australians with bold stripes deserving to be listed as it’s trend on their own.
Remember all your favourite stripe themes be it Nautical, Parisian or Candy Striper and you’ll find it this season in vertical and horizontal application – listen for body shape rules I will give during the show on this.
Bold Stripes are also a great way to make an impact and work well teamed with smaller block colours.
If you’re not using it in a classic stripe tee, try it in a bold stripe in a wide leg trouser using the season’s statement monochrome colours: black and white.
Now to see all of these trends live on the runway, I hope to see you Friday at 6:15pm or Saturday at 12:45pm. You can also expect some post-coverage on the runway right here on this blog next week.
I cannot wait to see you all and thank you for your support with Runway to Every Day.
