VAMFF Opening Event
The opening event was presented by David Jones to showcase the Autumn/Winter trends for 2014, which was nothing shy of spectacular!
When arriving at Docklands Central Pier you are faced with a life size Lavazza Coffee cup, (where Gary Pepper Girl, Nicole Warne, spent most of her time throughout the day), and a painted red carpet which made the whole event feel that little more glamorous for the every day person!
Walking along the red carpet we found the L’Oreal tent, a place to not only get a quick makeover but to purchase product too – We took a pass on this one and dove straight into the event.
As we strolled into the dark pink lit room, we were greeted by Virgin Australia “flight attendants” and receive a much needed drink of bubbles.
Surrounding us were the likes of beautifully pregnant Meagan Gale, Helen O’Connor (Designer) , Camilla Franks (Designer), Michael Lo Sordo (Designer) and fashion photographer Margaret Zhang.
Being only 3 rows behind the glowing Meagan Gale was not the only excitement from this event. As the show started the pink lights were shut off and the doors of the runway platform opened with a shining bright light!
The first model to face the runway and open the event was Miranda Kerr’s replacement, Jessica Gomes. With hair full of volume she showcased Scanlan and Theodore.
Some other brands Jessica wore were Nicholas and Zimmermann, as well as some high-street brands such as Mink Pink, Cameo and Staple the Label.
Although Jessica was the model opening the event, she is more curvaceous allowing more structured outfits to be showcased which we found extremely flattering!!
Another model hot on the scene was, Montana Cox who was just a step behind Jessica Gomes.
Another brand which caught our eye was Willow, not only for their clothing but for their shoes also!
Sabatini and Thurley showcased their little more edgier and grungy side with loose and darker outfits.
The Thurley outfit above could be worn in an every day world with a slip underneath or even over a pair of pants – for runway things need to be a little more crazy!
Also showing some of their alternative side was Akin and Camilla and Marc with outfits displaying a bit of edge with more structural design.
More outfits below showing some structure and shape, perfect for smart casual or work attire 🙂
That’s our little insight into the opening event for VAMFF and Autumn Winter Trends for 2014.
Stay tuned for the next event we will attend this evening, which is Runway 5 presented by Cosmopolitan.

The David jones collection looked amazing. I went last night to the ‘shop til you drop’ show and that was fantastic, went to a behind the scenes tour and had a look at the girls getting their hair and make-up done. Loved the VAMFF!!
