The Italians Are Here: Missoni for Target Launches
First thing yesterday morning, I made a beeline for Target to get a first look at the Missoni for Target Australia launch.
I wasn’t alone in my endeavour, I was joined by an army of eager shoppers keen to get their hands on product from the Italian fashion house.
In fact, SMH reported that more than 300 people were lined up outside Melbourne’s Chapel Street store where Angela Missoni, creative director of the brand officially opened the doors. The launch even crashed Target website.
So what’s all the fuss about?
Well, Missoni offers high-end Italian couture and was founded in 1953 by the late Ottavio and his wife Rosita Missoni. The brand is widely recognisable for its’ zig zag print and colourful knitwear with the label calling Australia a perfect fit for the collaboration.
Angela Missoni told news.com.au that the Aussie lifestyle “is very similar to ours; we love nature, we love to be at ease, we are relaxed, we enjoy certain parts of life the same way and we both have a strong understanding of family.”
So it was off to the change room with my arms full of product to see for myself exactly what Missoni had created.
It was certainly a colourful occasion!
While I’m not much of a bold pattern girl, it was nice to see some dresses were actually broken up by block colour and pattern.
Some of my favourite pics include the Halter Neck Maxi Dress in black and white geometric print. With white atop, a black bottom and a high drawstring waist, it’s a very flattering, relaxed summer piece. It’s even made of 100% silk.
I could see this teamed with the black and white bangle set perfectly.
The playsuit is also cute with black and white bodice and love the red and white wrap skirt whose fabric also features in a drop top – I do have to admit, nothing fit me properly, fitted me in some areas and too big in others 🙁
I’ve also hand-picked a few other bright-coloured pieces for your visual delight below.
Just like the high-end brand, bodycon dress styles feature heavily with the zigzag print and there’s also a beautiful black Jacquard Pencil skirt with elastic waistband. Many midi-lengths were explored which is great for the season and colour-wise, black, red, white and green are popular.
The best part about the collection is that the prints are designed for longevity. The geometric patterns are very on-trend while the signature zig-zag pieces will take you through multiple seasons.
Now regularly, a Missoni dress will begin around the $1K mark but at Target dresses and separates start under $100 with the most expensive item reaching $169.
The entire Missoni for Target collection actually features 220 pieces spanning clothing, accessories and homewares.
There are beautiful shoes, a pair of Espadrilles, wedges along with colourful geometric homewares, baby sets and bed quilts. There is even pet accessories.
So overall, I’m very pleased with Missoni’s debut at Target. The collection is playful, colourful and I’m happy they kept their pieces textured and high quality so everyone could enjoy a piece of the brand.
Now it’s over to you. Does anyone feel an urge to visit target now, or have you already? If you have seen the new collections or made a purchase, I would love to see your pictures on Facebook or hear about your thoughts in the comments below.
