Model Introductions: For Every Day Styling Workshops – NT Edition
Lacey and I are flying out tomorrow to Alice Springs to greet our three volunteer models for our Every Day Styling Workshop – Northern Territory edition.
Our three models are every day people living in Alice Springs who experience the same body hang-ups and style challenges that we do.
Now I have not formally met these models but managed to complete an interview on their goals for the workshop, any fashion challenges they have and what style means to them.
This information will direct how I style the models for the workshops whilst offering fashion advice that they can use off the runway in their own lives.
Now for a change of pace, we’re going to start off with introducing our male model – Scott.
Scott is 38 years of age and is a prison officer in Alice Springs. While he wears a uniform at work, when shopping, his clothing size usually reflects an XL which balances out with his tall height.
Now many women may think men don’t hold body insecurities like us but we are very wrong. Scott like many men prefers his arms and legs but recognises his stomach “which comes and goes” as his primary problem area.
Scott’s partner encouraged him to be a part of Every Day Styling Workshop.
“My partner though it would be a great experience and hopes it may get me excited about clothes,” explains Scott. “Sometimes I struggle to work out what is the best style for me.”
Like many men, clothes are just clothes to Scott but he likes to look presentable. However in order to do this, he usually leave the fashion decisions to his partner when going out.
In terms of shopping, Scott usually buys in bulk irregularly and sticks to that for a while. He also describes his wardrobe as “comfortable” and really doesn’t know what to buy when he’s shopping.
And like many partners, what Scott wants to wear vs. what his partner would like him to wear isn’t always in sync.
I’m hoping to help Scott define his style and perhaps experiment a little bit more to understand that stylish clothes can also be comfortable and practical. I’ll also aim to find a style for Scott that his partner will fall in love with.
ALICIA
Alicia is a 38 year old event coordinator who wears a size 10 to 14.
From her sizing chart we are predicting that Alicia is an inverted triangle shape since she wears a larger top than bottom.
Alicia’s legs receive a lot of compliments, perhaps her best feature but she is concerned with the weight on her upper body which makes it difficult for her to source clothes.
“My upper body is way to large for my lower body,” explains Alicia who also would like to see her waist defined.
Being a part of our Every Day Styling Workshops, Alicia hopes to figure out how to dress for her “odd” body shape.
In terms of shopping, Alicia finds it difficult to fit her upper section into dresses that also fit her lower section. She then finds herself buying larger sizes which don’t work.
“I have no hips so it is hard to find pants or dresses off the rack,” Alicia adds.
Like many women, Alicia would like to see her wardrobe improved and learn how to mix and match styles. She’s also keen on sourcing button up shirts that she struggles to find.
In terms of her overall look, Alicia is not thrilled. “…I feel like I dress too frumpy and not stylish enough,” she says feeling limited by her body shape and local resources.
You’ll see in this interview, I’ve kept a lot of Alicia’s comments as she sounds quite disappointed and frustrated with her body shape and style.
I’m looking to showing Alicia firstly how to fall in love with her body and how to work with what she has. I’ll offer style tips to balance her top and bottom areas, purchasing the right size and even some clever slimming tricks.
SARAH
The petite Sarah is 40 years of age and wears a size 6 to 8 depending on the clothing and brand.
Sarah is a mum and qualified bookkeeper and is fairly confident with her body shape but does think it looks best when it’s dressed. It’s lovely to see that Sarah doesn’t dislike any particular parts of her body and is quite accepting of her shape.
When shopping, her major challenge is finding clothing for her small body shape an overall she feels “okay about her wardrobe that reflects her budget.
I’m hoping to demonstrate to Sarah ways of falling in love with her style that move her from “okay” to perhaps great or fabulous descriptions. I’d also like to help source some stores that offer styles appropriate for a smaller body shape.
Now that you’ve been introduced, look out Scott, Alice and Sarah’s style transformations here, Facebook, Instragram and Pintrest over the next few of days.
Lacey and I can’t wait to meet this trio and bring them to the runway at Yeperenye Shopping Centre in Alice Springs 🙂

Very interested to see what Alicia will be wearing. Seems to be a very common issue.
Great to share
Thanks
Thanks Jackie, above comments should hopefully explain! 🙂 We had a great time in Alice Springs xo
So excited for the next installment.
You have such interesting body shapes to work with, Cindy and such a unique environment. I think the issues that your models have and watching you work with what is presented to you, will be inspirational to all of us. It is such a joy to be able to look in the mirror and say” I really do love myself” If there’s anyone who can help us all do that, it’s you!
Nikki
Oh thanks Nikki!!!!! It was a lovely day in Alice Springs, the models were amazing, such a shame about photos as we had all hands on deck and no photographer, lets hope the video is ok! Interestingly enough, none of my models were the size they gave me, they were all smaller!!!! How we perceive ourselves is amazing! xo
I always thought that I had an “odd” body shape. It’s nice to see that I’m not alone. Looking forward to seeing what you do for Alicia.
Alicia was a strong inverted triangle so not odd at all and we kept the top half simple in a Katies plum blouse and Katies dark flare jean to balance her out.Her second outfit was a print dress in black and white that slimmed her through the top half and balanced her out through the bottom. Hope that helps Monique 🙂
Looking forward to Alice’s transformation .My body shape exactly .
Enjoy Alice you will feel a million dollars
Robyn, I have detailed Alicia’s outfits below, we only have the one photo on the blog of the last outfit as we took video instead of photos as we didn’t have enough hands for photos, we may post this soon if the quality is ok 🙂
