Runway to Every Day Model Series: Sharyn
We’re back to the ladies this week after showcasing Ian, and would like to introduce our fifth model, the gorgeous Sharyn.
Sharyn is 50+ years of age and wears a size 10. Sharyn was unhappy with her current look and sought our assistance for a style reinvention, which started with a Shopping Expedition and Make-up Tuition.
Many women after they turn 50 feel like they fade away in the background in pale colours or casually-orientated clothing but this is simply not the case.
After 50, fashion equates to a place where comfort merges with style and you should be enjoying your clothes. By this age, you should at least know what works for you and what doesn’t when it comes to fashion and always aim for quality and elegance in each look you put together.
Body shape:
Sharyn holds a petite hourglass figure, on the boardline of an inverted triangle. An hourglass is generally the most coveted body shape for women, aka the Marilyn Monroe figure. This shape sees evenly balanced shoulders and hips meet a small waist along with a generally larger bust and rounded bottom.
Aim:
When you’re an hourglass, it’s important to never lose shape. It’s the most feminine of body shapes so when dressing aim to showcase your waist, strong structure and elongate your legs.
Outfit One: Casual
We loved Sharyn in this seasonal look that incorporated on-trend colour and pattern.
As mentioned earlier, we’ve challenged the stigma that 50+ requires women to purely wear light colours and opted for some deep winter hues contrasted with a white blouse.
We’ve bought in a muted flower print through the pants to showcase Sharyn’s slender legs. The ankle hem teamed with flats also helps elongate Sharyn’s legs. Additionally, as the foundation colour of the pants is black, they also slim the area with the cooler tones, great for winter fashion.
Sharyn has strong shoulders so we’ve made use of this via a coloured blazer that draws in slightly at the waist thanks to it’s impeccable tailoring.
The blouse that sits underneath the jacket also features embellishment around the collar drawing the attention up and is also the accent for the darker colours of the look.
This entire outfit was sourced from Ted Baker which is a higher end label, evident from the quality fabric, tailoring and flawless fit of this look.
Again, when you’re 50, quality is essential. So aim to purchase the best quality you can afford when it comes to fashion. This investment will also offer wardrobe longevity when more classic-orientated pieces are chosen.

Outfit Two: Smart Casual
Sharyn looks ladylike, feminine and as elegant as a woman should in her 50’s in this tone-on-tone ensemble.
Pastels and gelato-inspired colours are huge this season and have carried through from spring to winter so we decided to combine a classic look with on-trend colours.
This look is minimal yet stylish featuring three layered items: an angled hem blouse, straight skirt and blazer where accessories become powerful accents.
Notice the angled hem on the blouse that sits at Sharyn’s waist while the collarless jacket features a zip up creating a streamlined upper body. The straight cut skirt sits at a flattering knee length and also works to showcase a feminine silhoutte.
We’ve used a monochromatic palette in the accessories (black and white/cream) to break up the look. The scarf brings the attention to Sharyn’s neckline while working in with the shoes and bag.

Outfit Three: Evening
Sharyn looks incredibly stylish in this monochromatic ensemble that is simple yet striking.
The black drape dress is classically elegant and tailored to create a vertical line from Sharyn’s décolletage to the bottom of the skirt. Notice that the dress is at a flattering knee length but features a sheer overlay at maxi length bringing interest to the lower half of Sharyn’s look along with that touch of after five suitability we’re after.
The white blazer really completes the outfit thanks to its structured tailoring, which streamlines Sharyn’s silhouette and features pocket detail for an interesting overlay.
White was huge last spring and we’re seeing it preferred again this winter as a contrast to darker colours in shades of pure white, cream, ivory and eggshell. It is officially replacing the black blazer this winter.
This look is quite classic so we’ve brought in some seasonal fashion and interest through the transparent heels.
On completion of her runway walk, we think Sharyn has successfully demonstrated that fifty certainly doesn’t mean frumpy.
It’s an age to really cultivate a personal style you love and pay attention to the quality of your clothes. It’s also a time to have fun with accessories that will allow you to explore the season’s hottest trends.
