Spring Racing Got You to A Halt? We’ve Got Your Style Covered.
We are well into Spring Racing season and the big days are just over two weeks away.
Today’s blog is for those who aren’t yet race ready and are seeking style inspiration.
As with every other year, the races are a wonderful opportunity to go over the top and shine!
So just for you, we’ve hit the halls of Chadstone to bring you an array of Spring Racing looks across different trends, price points and styles.
BLOCK COLOURS
If you prefer to leave the prints and patterns at bay, choose a block colour in a hue you both love and that looks good on you. A block dress teamed with a dramatic headpiece is the best way to wear this look and you’ll be delighted by how many options are available to you.
FLORALS
Women’s race fashion generally leans towards “lady-like” which makes florals very suitable. You can either embrace the head to toe look with a floral head piece and dress or bring flowers in through the new digital prints and muted tones. Floral head bands will play a big part in head-wear this year.
MIND THE MIDRIFF
While writing this post, the Herald Sun revealed that one of the hottest fashion trends, the crop and midi-skirt ,would not be accepted in certain areas of the racetrack.
While general public guests won’t be affected, the Herald Sun revealed that “Members’ Grandstand and enclosure, VIP Birdcage, and popular carpark picnic precincts, such as The Nursery, at Flemington in Victoria this year will be turned away”.
For those still keen to try this look, be mindful of how much midriff is on show. Don’t wear it at crop top height (no bellybuttons on show), just a small gap between your skirt and top is enough. The sophisticated length of the midi-skirt will also balance out the look.
STRIPES
We mentioned stripes a couple of weeks ago in our Nautical blog which we predict will be a season favourite. As I am a stripe girl myself and not at all into wearing florals, this is the trend I will lean towards.
WHITE
This crisp look is an elegant option along with any of the other bold colours featured this Spring. White on white also offers a modern take on Derby Day whose dress code is generally black and white.
Bright orange and white looks amazing together as does cobalt blue and white or lime and orange/white.
So a couple of final style rules to finish.
For those keen to enter Fashions on the Field, it’s best to play by race day dress code which we detailed in our last blog.
Secondly, elegance is always preferred during the races so beautiful lengths and feminine silhouettes will be key.
Finally, be comfortable, from your headpiece to your shoes. Race days generally have long periods of standing so opt for a chunkier heel or you’ll find yourself sinking into the lawn – not very glamorous.
So I hope you enjoy the collection of photos we’ve chosen to feature today and hope it’s prompted some inspiration on your end.
Have you made your spring racing purchase(s) yet? If so, what did you purchase and where from?
Oh – and would love to see your pics if you’re keen!

Wow, that looked like fun. I love the red polka dot number with the big hat & the black & white striped dress, but they were all gorgeous. Try some big soft curls with your hair Cindy, think they’d suit you on a big day out. Love your stuff xx

Thanks Gail, glad you enjoyed this blog! Xx

Wow, I love all these looks but especially love the Alannah Hill dress and the Black & White Review dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves. Where is the pink/peach skirt from Cindy? Portmans?
What are you thoughts with wearing black to the races with a black/white fascinator? I bought a new headpiece and wondered if I can just team it with my trusty black Cue dress and just buy a new cblack/white clutch to match? Certainly cheaper than a whole new dress.

Janelle, the peach skirt is amazing, beautiful fabric and dips at the back, its from Forever New! Great idea wearing the black dress and adding accessories. I love black and white personally! Great way to save money….go for it!!! Xx

So many of these outfits are gorgeous but so are those nude shoes you are wearing, are they current season and if so where from. And having no back, are they hard to walk in? Thanks. x

Thanks Tanya! The shoes are from Kookai and they are soooooo uncomfortable! I am disappointed as I love them, so now I am using them in my blogs…….at least then I am wearing them 🙂 x
