The Summer Must-Have … The Blazer!

I did a Lady’s wardrobe this morning, and in my questioning to her I asked if she had any Spring Blazers. Before she replied her eyes glazed over, and she said, “No, and I don’t need one.”

Surprisingly enough, I got her to identify looks that she was attracted to, and what did I see? Blazers!

What I am loving about blazers, apart from the fact they are giving us all a break from the cardigan, is that they really do suit most body shapes, and just always look so great!

Blazers have the power to make almost any outfit look effortlessly stylish. They come in so many gorgeous spring colours, as well as your basic neutrals, so there will be something available for all colour groups.

If you can’t afford the luxury of buying a new blazer, have a dig around in the closet, or a rustle through your local op shop or market, and see if you can find one suitable to wear this season.

Now, if you are out to buy a new blazer, you need to look for one that suits your shape, and fits in with your vertical proportions.

If you are short, and heavy through the bust and upper arms, you will be looking for a thin fabric, with a thin single front lapel. You will also need a jacket that sits in around the widest part of your bottom.

If you are tall and broad, you can bring your blazer length a bit longer, but still avoid bulk and aim for a single lapel.

If you are thin, and smaller in the bust, having a thicker fabric wont hurt you, unless you are looking at a floral blazer. Generally, blazers are quite plain, so perhaps choose a colour that you know is going to be versatile in your wardrobe, rather than a pop colour just because you like it.

There are soooo many gorgeous blazers this season, so where to buy will depend on your taste, and how much you are prepared to spend.

Because this is such a versatile purchase, and could be quite trans-seasonal, you might find this a great investment piece and decide you want quality. If not, there are plenty of options to choose from that will not hurt the budget.

Zara have some great blazers at a reasonable price, as do Marcs, Portmans, Forever New, Country Road, Jag, Review and Dotti, just to name a few!

Wear your blazer with a singlet top, cami or t-shirt and jeans, or you can even pull it on over a dress. I’m sure, if you find the right one and fall in love with it, you will be pulling it on at any chance you get this season!
