A Day In The Life Of A Personal Stylist
I’ve been asked many times over the years, ‘what’s it like to be a personal stylist’, or more commonly, ‘how do you manage to fit everything in your day’ so this week’s blog post is about sharing a little insight into what a day can look like for me. Really though, no two days are the same! It’s what I love about doing what I do!
The first thing I do in the mornings while eating breakfast is check my social media. I have a growing social media following on both Facebook and Instagram. I love to check what comments or questions you have asked on my posts and take the time to read and reply to each one. I tend to turn off my Instagram notifications at night time as I’ve found I have a strong following not only in Australia but also across Asia – getting notifications in the middle of the night isn’t fun, I like my sleep!
I arrive into the styling suite by 8.30am/9.00am and meet with my team to run through what our goals are for the day, what tasks we each need to do plus of course, have a good catch-up chat! I’ve the most amazing team here at Style With Cindy and I love inspiring and working with them every day.
Every morning will be different, always fast paced, and will include either team meetings, client consultations, mentoring my stylists, or running one of my stylist training courses.
After a busy morning, I love nothing more than to escape for thirty minutes and enjoy a cup of chai in solitary peace. I find it’s important to have that balance, that me-time, as it allows me to take time out and have a breather from an otherwise full-on day.
Early afternoons can be spent producing photo shoots. These are great fun although there is a lot of work that goes into each one! From creative planning to sourcing clothes, from styling to shooting and editing, it takes a few hours to ensure the clothes are shown in their best light.
The Style Academy also needs to be managed. Courses are scheduled six months in advance by Lacey, my right-hand woman who is also our Style With Cindy makeup artist and style expert, and calls need to be made to chat with them about our courses and to prepare them.
One of the most important factors in my personal styling business is networking. Late afternoons can be spent having what I call recons where I go and meet with store owners and manager, fashion houses and designers to find out the latest trends, colours and new collections in store, as well as spotting what’s on sale and the bargains that can be had so I can let you, my readers and clients, know all about them.
By the end of the day, I’m exhausted…but like so many of you, my day doesn’t end there! There’s housework to be done, laundry to be folded and put away and the kitty litter emptied. One thing I usually don’t have to worry about is dinner. My gorgeous husband Calvin, is a fantastic cook and loves nothing more than creating, chopping and preparing in the kitchen…and I love nothing more than eating one of his home-cooked meals like his signature beef stew (to die for!) or his delicious chocolate dessert (pure heaven!).
You would think that after a day of personal styling, working with clothes, that I would be ready for a break however, one of the things I love to do most is to play around experimenting in my own wardrobe! I just live and breathe fashion!
Come the end of the evening, I enjoy tucking up on the sofa to watch a movie while enjoying a glass of wine, or a scotch, or catching up on the phone with one of my sons or girlfriends, and winding down after another busy and exciting day at Style With Cindy, before doing it all again the next day!
What does your week look like?
