New Year Style Resolutions

January is nearly over, so I thought I would check in on how your 2018 resolutions are going.

‘All about me’.

A statement used quite often at the beginning of every year.

‘This is my year’.

‘I want to focus on myself’.

‘It’s my time’.

‘I want a change’.

These are fantastic statements, they sound great, don’t they?

When action follows these statements, its very powerful, although without action it is just another resolution that becomes a hollow wish, an unused dream or goal, or another disappointment.

I use the term stake in the ground quite often, especially in my Personal Stylist Academy. This is an intent to do something, be better, make change reinvent, change career, go on that holiday or try something new.

A stake in the ground is a personal admittance to yourself that you will commit.

Watching Oprah Winfrey’s acceptance speech at the Golden Globes was so empowering.

Everything Oprah said resonated with myself and all those highly successful and influential people in that room.

Putting yourself out there on a limb, improving your skills, appearance and inner strength – reinvention!

What’s your stake in the ground for 2018?

What can you do to improve you?

Reinvention

Through the stages of our lives, reinvention can mean very different things!

I thought I would share some tips on re-inventing your style in your 30’s, 40’s 50’s.

One of the easiest and affordable updates to our look is our makeup and beauty routine, so I thought I would ask our resident makeup artist Jen to give you some expert pointers.

Fashion At Any Age

Spend your time on this earth wearing clothes you LOVE! Donate all of those items you don’t wear, if you don’t love it ditch it!

Check out my guide to organising your wardrobe or book a wardrobe audit session with our experienced stylists who will also give you expert advice on your body shape, colours and personal style.

Bring your personality into your look, style is a way to communicate who you are without saying a thing!

Enjoy the moment – how many times in your life have your picked apart your reflection in the mirror… fast forward 5 years and you don’t understand why you were so hard on yourself!

Makeup At Any Age

Who doesn’t aspire to bring out their best features and minimize areas that we feel are issues for us. Some tips are universal and things I would recommend everyone incorporate them into their make-up routine, regardless of age, and others may be more appropriate at different times in your life.

Tips for all ages:

Your Base – the most flattering base allows your natural skin to show through while providing a more even skin tone.

Blend – your base, your highlighting products and your eyeshadows –it’s one of the most important things you can do!

Brows– subtly colour in and define your brows – they are the frame for your face after all and you will see the difference in how this elevates your look.

Contour and highlight– subtlety is the key but you’ll be impressed with how it defines and shapes your face.

Often people ask what are the best tips for my stage of life? You may have been applying your make-up the same way for years or have been afraid to try out products or techniques. Perhaps you might want to try out some of my suggestions below:

20’s and 30’s

Cue dress

This is your time to debut the latest fashion and trends and usually the time in your life where you experiment with your style the most.

The best part about style in your 20’s is that you can pull off those midriff tops, cutouts, patterns, colours and more adventurous styles.

Sheike tops

Be sure as you head into your 30’s that your style can evolve and mature, but don’t make the mistake of dressing ‘too old’ and ageing yourself prematurely!

Many women enter motherhood in their 20’s and 3o’s and call in saying they are dressing ‘mumsy’.

You can still have practical, easy and stylish looks in motherhood that reflect your personal style – don’t lose your identity!

Makeup Tips

Complexion/Base – base or no base, it’s your choice, but whatever you do, do not totally cover up your youthful skin.

Eyes – now is the time to experiment with colour and shimmer and liners. Have fun with it and enjoy how it draws attention to your features.

Lips – opt for a gloss for a pretty, fresh look or try out something bright for a pop of colour and fun.

Bronzing and illuminating– use your bronzer as your base for a natural glow or use a liquid illuminator on bare skin just to the areas of your face you want to feature for a fresh-faced look.

40’s

Sheike jumpsuit

Your 40’s is a fabulous time as you are truly comfortable with who you are and what you love.

If your 20’s and 30’s are about experimenting and following trends, your 40’s are about quality rather than quantity, honing your wardrobe to key versatile pieces that suit you.

You understand the importance of the best cuts and styles for your shape and you revel in your wardrobe reflecting the person you have become rather than the world around you.

Many women do find in their 40’s they know who they are but are not sure how to translate this into a style that is uniquely theirs… this is where a personal stylist comes in.

Makeup Tips

Complexion/Base – Use your base to even out your skin tone but not hide your natural skin.

Eyes – Eyeliner can be applied with a little upward stroke in the corner of the eye to provide a visual lift.

Shadows are best subtle and well blended but don’t be afraid to go for a little colour. Be willing to give liquid liner a go to0. It can be an elegant look for the right occasion.

Lips – Add a lip liner to your routine to help define your smile and give your lipstick some staying power. Neutrals are very flattering but experiment with a bit of drama too, especially at night.

Bronzing and illuminating – Go easy on the bronzer, rather than all over coverage some subtle shading under your cheekbones, jawline, around your forehead and on the bridge of your nose can look more flattering – but don’t forget to blend! Add a little liquid illuminator on top of your base, before you powder, to highlight your features and provide a lovely glow.

50’s and beyond

Steer away from polarising trends and be aware of your changing colour palette, perhaps taking the time to edit the tones in your wardrobe as brights can be too harsh.

Ted Baker floral pants and white top

Watch the lengths of your pieces, you don’t want to dress too young or too old – hemlines that are too long can appear ‘dowdy’ as can flats that do not elongate your legs.

Karen Millen blue dress and white jacket

Your haircut and colour have a huge impact on your look, we can assist you with recommendations in a colour analysis session.

Makeup Tips

Complexion/Base – Allow your base to provide a moisture and even out skin tone.

Eyes –  Natural and matt colours are flattering. Use a slightly darker shade in your crease to subtly give the eyelid more definition.

A little eyeliner, smudged in the corner of the eye, can really bring a subtle definition to the eyes.

Lips – Don’t be afraid of a using colour on your lips. It can really bring your complexion alive.

Apply lip liner to areas of the lips that may need a little more definition.

Bronzing and illuminating – Be subtle in the application of bronzer. A little of the cheeks, forehead and neck should be all you need. Don’t forget to blend! Add a little liquid illuminator to your foundation to add a more moisturized look to your complexion.

Im interested in getting help to re invent myself as for the past 7yrs ive lived in track pants and pjs im emabarased to go out in public due to my weight gain from medications, menapourse lack of exercise due to auto immune disorders . In the past i was told im a cross between a hour glass and apple shape im 5ft 4 and was told to wear warm tones. Im the primary care giver for my 24yr old son who is wheelchair bound with muscular dystropy and ive become a social recluse as im completely brocken as far as my self esteem goes as i also live with domestic violence daily which also put a limit on my budget as well as the fact i live in Bright . Im looking at getting a idea of what it would cost to get the things i have listed done and if parts can be done via zoom ?
    Im interested in
    * Hair style suggestion: for low maintance and that doestnt wash me out . I have been blonde for past 15yrs , not sure if i should go to my natural colour and maybe add some high lights . Im not good at blow drying my hair.
    * make up: ways to hide my wrinkles and bring out my eye colour . Use eye shadow with confidence
    * style: help me to find a comfortable and femine look that suits my age and hides my belly and my belly over hang.
    * wardrobe help: to get rid of items that dont suit me and keep items that do as well as create 4 or 5 out fits by mixing and matching clothes
    * accessories: help with how to choose jewllery to go with different outfits . I have a lot of jewllery but not always sure how to match it.
    * shopping: help me to get staple items that i dont already have in my ward and that are quality and will last and ideally not out date much

Im sorry if ive over loaded you with information but i felt the more info i gave the better idea you have as to what im hoping for.
Thanks heaps for your time and efforts
Look foward to hearing from you
