Festive Fashion: 16 Looks to Inspire

I love, love, love Christmas and the New Year celebrations!

Like you didn’t know? 🙂

Yes, I am merrily guilty of filling your inboxes and social media pages with festive fashion during the month of December – only by demand of course.

I know not everyone celebrates Christmas, however, we all turn over a New Year.

It’s also a time where it’s hard to not to participate in the decorative nature of the season. Offices, homes, retail stores and shopping strips are adorned with festive decor, the Christmas music is playing, and there is a feeling of anticipation in the air about what a new year could bring.

So now that I’ve painted that joyful picture, I think this time of year is worth celebrating and calls for a festive look.

Now in Australia, it’s generally warm so this will direct what you’ll wear on the days in conjunction with where you’ll be celebrating.

For me, it will be Christmas dinner with the family and I cannot wait! It’s super challenging to get us all in the one room at the same time with such revolving schedules, so I value days like the 25th of December.

Style-wise, I’m a little Santa inspired, so it’s red and white looks for me coupled with sparkles – namely in my jewellery.

Even if I am camping or at the beach, I still try to adhere to my colour dressing tradition, it makes me feel more festive.

So for you too, I imagine Christmas or New Years Day might be a casual affair. You could adopt the seasonal colours that have evolved well beyond red, white and green to include metallics, blue, purple and even neutrals. Work the colour into your tees, shorts, kaftans, swimwear or your beach tote.

Others may be spending the day or night at a gorgeous restaurant, cafe or bistro. Here you can dress up your casual look with heels, wedges or accessories and a little sparkle is always welcome.

Floaty items are always popular with the weather be it the relaxed maxi, shift dress or a belted shirt and shorts/pants ensemble.

It can be a little hot for denim, but you can always work this year’s denim trend in a shirt or skirt – yes they’re back and very on-trend.

White remains the biggest colour for the season and if you will be around little sticky hands or gorgeous pets, you can still bravely work white but perhaps opt for a pattern or print look, it’s much more forgivable!

New Years Eve and day offer dress code flexibility in an “anything goes” situation. It’s actually hard to feel overdressed so work your favourite looks and sparkle to your heart’s content.
