Runway to Every Day Model Series: Part 5

Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty ~ Coco Chanel.

What wise words from Coco Chanel, a woman who truly understood the value of integrating your personal style to showcase your best self, no matter what age you are.

In today’s Runway to Every Day model series we introduce Liz, she is a wonderful 50+ client of mine who shined on the runway.

Liz wears a size 12 and has completed a multitude of Style With Cindy services including attending Style Review events, two style workshops, multiple shops, a wardrobe consultation and make up tuitions.

Body Shape:

Liz is an inverted triangle, actually one of the most common body shapes I find for women.

Many women assume they are triangle (commonly known as pear) shapes due to the media delivering inaccurate information.

So broader shoulders and narrow hips define an inverted triangle so it’s important to balance out the shape with the use of strategic clothing and accessories.

For Liz, we wanted to show a nice casual look that is suitable for her age bracket as well as showcasing an after five look without super high stilettos.

Outfit One: Casual

We opted for a very soft colour palette for Liz’ first look to correspond to the warmer months and allow Liz’s natural colouring to bring the outfit to life.

The relaxed knit sits comfortably on Liz’s upper body but is still minimally structured to give her shape while the patterned scarf breaks up the pastel hues of the outfit creating a point of interest.

Similar to this seasons drawstring pant, we’ve chosen a relaxed style pant for our bottom half but have opted for pants with a flat front to avoid any additional bulk across Liz’s stomach area.

We’ve placed Liz in stylish yet practical flats for her daytime look and accessories have been kept to a minimum using a modern-style bag to complete the look.

Outfit Two: Smart Casual

We’ve played with the monochromatic trend for Liz’s next outfit, layering pieces and playing with patterns and textures to highlight her best features.

On the top half of Liz’s body, we’ve opted for a sleeveless vest vs. a blazer or jacket to create a streamlined look and not further broaden her shoulders.

The black top works as a beautiful foundation beneath the vest while the added polka-dot detail draws some interest to the outfit.

The lighter colour on Liz’ lower body is represented in the tailored pants we’ve chosen for Liz which balances out her body shape. The pants feature a flattering (and slimming) vertical stripe print and are met by minimal accessories, being a tan bag and short heels.

Outfit Three: Evening

Liz’s final outfit was a crowd favourite that brought out a fun and youthful Liz, thanks to the outfit’s quality tailoring and play on colour.

Again, due to showcasing ‘spring’s’ hottest trends, we’ve opted for a warmer colour palette as seen in the bold coral pencil skirt which is beautifully tailored to give Liz plenty of shape.

The colour skirt links into the top which is fairly detailed through both its box pattern, gathering and asymmetrical finish.

The black blazer we’ve chosen for Liz completes the outfit immediately taking it from day to night, streamlining her shoulders and sitting a flattering hip length.

Minimal accessories are required to complete this look so we’ve opted for a black patent clutch and chosen short heeled strappy shoes to demonstrate that super high stilettos aren’t the only shoe choice for an evening out.
