Upping Your Style Ante

In the depths of winter, some of you may be starting to feel a bit flat when looking at your wardrobe…

We are ready to look at the new season but still a little cold to transition into your Spring essentials.

Sometimes all we need are just one or two key pieces to really elevate your look and inject some excitement into your rotation!

Here are a few inexpensive ideas to try and some of the items you may already have in your wardrobe!

Capes

Want to instantly up the style ante with one piece?

A cape is so versatile as you can easily bring sophistication to any look but change the overall style by the piece you wear underneath.

For example…

Want sleek sophistication? Wear black skinny jeans with a simple black top underneath your black or white cape

Feeling feminine? Wear a beautiful floral shirt with a bell sleeve or delicate detail.

Want casual street style?  A cape over jeans and a casual t-shirt will create an effortlessly stylish look.

A beautiful wool cape in a classic colour is a fantastic investment for every winter season.

Buy an inexpensive on trend piece

Many of my clients’ comment that they love the latest looks but are wary of wasting money on items that will go out of fashion… and this is true… BUT think about your cost per wear… it is all relative!

You don’t have to spend the earth to enjoy the latest styles. Invest in your classic pieces but look for cheaper alternatives in stores such as Forever New, Portmans & Zara.

It goes without saying that on trend accessories will make a style statement.

Our Stylists love Lovisa for inexpensive on trend pieces that bring instant glamour.

When choosing accessories, you need to pick the right colour for your complexion.

The wrong colour can throw your entire look and drain your complexion.

Rich fabrics & textures

A rich fabric that brings texture and depth to any look creates interest and elevates your style.

Faux furs, velvet, satin, silk & lace are great examples of fabrics that bring texture and emotion to your look.

Broderie is another design that brings a stylish textural edge to your favourite cut of dress or top.

Pattern & Print

Pattern and print bring instant interest and excitement to your look.

Animal print can bring intensity or playfulness to any look depending on how you wear it.

For example, you can easily make your look more fun by swapping out a black heel for a sneaker or flat shoe or pair with denim.

The same can be said with stripes, which can be worn in a nautical style for casual cool or a bold stripe for a fashion forward edge… either way, you are making a statement.

Shoes!

Shoes can make or break an outfit.

You can be wearing the same dress but change the shoes and you will have a completely different look…take you from day to night, desk to dinner, fashion forward to casual.

Shoes are another tempting trend driven item that can have limited wardrobe shelf life.

You can buy an inexpensive mule or blush sneaker that will last you the few months they are in season… the money you save by purchasing in Zara will save you money to invest in a classic quality leather heel.

My big tip: think about where the shoe strap sits not allowing it to cut your legs off and shorten their appearance.

What do you love to wear to up your style ante?

Cindy xx
